As golf makes its triumphant return to the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, Matthieu Pavon, the rising French star, is filled with immense pride and anticipation. The prospect of competing on home soil has only heightened his motivation to leave a lasting impact.
Pavon, a recent winner on both the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR, is eager to seize the opportunity to serve as a catalyst for increased golf participation and growth in his homeland.
“I love golf so much,” he expressed. “I really hope the Olympics can help people in France to really enjoy the sport more and break some barriers.”
With the successful career of compatriot Céline Boutier, a Solheim Cup star and major champion, serving as inspiration, Pavon is determined to become a role model for young aspiring athletes in France.
“It would be a pleasure for me to do the same with the boys back home,” he added.
The upcoming Olympic spectacle holds significant importance for Pavon’s ongoing rise to prominence.
“It will be massive for my career progression,” he explained. “I have watched the Olympics since I was a kid. The Olympics are part of history. It’s great that golf is back, and I can’t wait to represent my country in France.”
The challenge that awaits the golfers at Le Golf National, the host venue for the Olympic golf competition, is not lost on Pavon. As a frequent competitor at the course, he is well aware of the demanding nature of the layout.
“Tough!” he described. “When they set it up for big tournaments, it is really tough. There is lots of water around the golf course. The stretch from the 15th to the 18th is probably one of the hardest I have ever played.”
Pavon’s journey to the top of the golfing world has been one of steady progress, and his recent successes, including a historic PGA TOUR victory and a top-12 finish at the Masters, have propelled him into the global elite. As he sets his sights on the Paris 2024 Olympics, Pavon is eager to continue his momentum and deliver a memorable homecoming performance.
