Punta Cana, Dominican RepublicWesley Bryan navigated a rollercoaster round of birdies and bogeys on Saturday, finishing with a crucial birdie to take a one-shot lead over Kevin Tway heading into the final round of the suddenly wide-open Corales Puntacana Championship.

Bryan, who opened with a blistering 63, carded a 2-under 70 to sit at 17-under 199, tying the 54-hole tournament record. Despite losing the lead early on and falling behind by two shots at one point, the former PGA TOUR winner regained his footing with three birdies in a four-hole stretch around the turn to reclaim the top spot.

“The birdie at the last was nice. It was nice to see a putt drop,” Bryan said. “I missed a lot of really short putts – there’s really no hiding it. But I felt like right when it was starting to teeter, I would make a nice putt.”

Tway, seeking his second PGA TOUR victory, shot a 66 to sit one shot back, while Justin Lower (71) and Taylor Pendrith of Canada (65) are two strokes off the pace. A group of 10 players, including former FedExCup champion Billy Horschel, are within four shots of the lead, setting the stage for an exhilarating final round at the Corales Course.

With the winner earning a spot in the upcoming PGA Championship, as well as securing entry into the PGA TOUR’s Signature Events, the stakes are high for the contenders in this suddenly wide-open golf tournament.

“Excited to just get the nerves flowing a little bit tomorrow and have a chance to win a golf tournament,” Bryan said. “Got a good opportunity for that tomorrow.”
