June 24, 2024 – In a thrilling display of golfing prowess, Cameron Young shot a sensational 59 at the Travelers Championship, the signature event on the par 70 TPC River Highlands course in Connecticut. Young’s historic round marked the first sub-60 score on the PGA Tour in four years, making him just the 12th player to achieve this remarkable feat.
Young, the 27-year-old rising star, opened his third round with a blistering start, going birdie-birdie-eagle-birdie to immediately find himself 5 under par through the first four holes. The eagle came courtesy of a spectacular 142-yard shot that he holed out on the par-4 hole. Continuing his brilliant play, Young birdied the 8th and 9th holes to turn in just 28 strokes, setting the stage for his historic round.
“Undeterred by the pressure, Young maintained his momentum, carding another birdie on the 13th hole to reach 8 under par. The defining moment came on the drivable par-4 15th, where Young struck an epic iron shot that rolled up to the green and finished just four feet from the pin, setting up a short eagle putt. A final birdie on the 17th hole sealed Young’s place in the record books, as he parred the 18th to complete the 13th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history.”
This remarkable achievement comes on the heels of a low-scoring week overall at the Travelers Championship, with several golfers posting impressive rounds. Tom Kim opened with a 62, while Robert MacIntyre and Collin Morikawa also shot 62 and 63, respectively. The course has proven to be particularly kind to the players, with five golfers entering the weekend at least 10 shots under par.
Young’s 59 is the first sub-60 round on the PGA Tour since Scottie Scheffler’s 59 at the Northern Trust Open in 2020. It also comes just eight years after Jim Furyk’s record-setting 58 on the same TPC River Highlands course in 2016.
