World number one Scottie Scheffler is unfazed by his disappointing performance at last week’s US Open, as he prepares to return to action at the Travelers Championship. The Masters champion, who claimed his fifth victory of the season at the Memorial Tournament just a fortnight ago, finished 14 shots behind winner Bryson DeChambeau at Pinehurst, carding five consecutive over-par rounds.

“It’s not like I played that bad and shot over par,” Scheffler calmly asserted during a press conference. The 27-year-old acknowledged the unusual statistic, noting that his ability to “survive the harder golf courses” had deserted him on this occasion. However, he remains undeterred, stating, “I’m probably not going to think about it too much when I’m shooting over par.”

Scheffler did voice frustration with the tournament schedule, suggesting the proximity of the Memorial to the US Open was less than ideal. This concern has since been addressed, with the PGA Tour announcing that the Jack Nicklaus-hosted event will be moved a week earlier from 2025 to allow for greater preparation time.

As the Travelers Championship, one of the Tour’s new “signature” events, approaches, Scheffler is eager to bounce back. The introduction of these lucrative, limited-field tournaments has been a response to the threat posed by the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series, a development the world number one has generally welcomed, while anticipating further refinements to the format.

Representing his country at the upcoming Olympics is another source of excitement for Scheffler, who described the opportunity as “really special” and “surreal.” With his sights set on the Travelers Championship and beyond, the unflappable American remains focused on the task at hand, unfazed by his recent setback.
