Harbour Town Golf Links Hosts RBC Heritage After Masters Tradition
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina – April 13, 2023 (BBC Golf)
Since 1983, Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island has been the go-to destination for golfers looking to unwind and regroup after the demanding Masters tournament. This tradition has now been elevated, as the RBC Heritage has been designated one of eight Signature Events on the 2024 PGA Tour calendar.
The field for this year’s RBC Heritage includes 54 players who competed at Augusta National last week, ensuring a high-caliber line-up. The par-71 Harbour Town course, designed by the legendary Pete Dye with input from Jack Nicklaus, presents a unique challenge with its narrow fairways, overhanging trees, and water hazards around the greens.
Defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick (+2500) will be looking to claim his second title at Harbour Town after prevailing in a playoff last year. The Englishman, who vacationed in the area as a child, has demonstrated an affinity for the course, posting 20 of his last 22 rounds at par or better.
Jordan Spieth (+2800), who fell short in a playoff to Fitzpatrick last year, will be seeking to add another RBC Heritage title to his resume. The Texan has never missed a weekend at this event, recording five top-12 finishes in seven starts.
Other notable contenders include:
- Patrick Cantlay (+1600), who has been tantalizingly close to victory at Harbour Town, missing a playoff by a single shot last year.
- Brian Harman (+5000), a Georgia native who has cashed in four consecutive events and 10 of 14 career starts at this venue.
The RBC Heritage promises to be a thrilling event, where precision off the tee, smart course management, and a deft touch around the greens will be key to success. Golfers will need to navigate Harbour Town’s unique challenges and capitalize on the scoring opportunities presented by the course’s small, overseeded greens.
