Scottie Scheffler Clinches Third Victory in Six Weeks, Wins 88th Masters Tournament
April 10, 2023 – The world’s top-ranked golfer, Scottie Scheffler, continued his dominant run on the PGA TOUR, capturing the 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. Scheffler, the pre-tournament betting favorite at +450, closed out a four-shot victory over Ludvig Åberg, making his major championship debut.
Entering the final round with a one-shot lead, Scheffler maintained his composure as his closest pursuers – Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, and Åberg – stumbled with critical mistakes on the back nine. The 26-year-old Texan navigated Amen Corner flawlessly and closed with six birdies over his final 11 holes to claim his second major title.
Åberg, the Swedish newcomer, impressed by shooting under par in each of his final three rounds, but it wasn’t enough to catch the relentless Scheffler. The victory marked the 29th time in the last 34 Masters that the champion emerged from the final pairing.
Scheffler’s triumph comes just six weeks after his win at The PLAYERS Championship, solidifying his status as the undisputed best golfer in the world. At just 27 years old, he has now joined the legendary Tiger Woods as the only players to win THE PLAYERS and the Masters in the same season.
With his second major championship, Scheffler’s journey towards stardom continues to reach new heights. As Jim Nantz eloquently stated, “Stardom confirmed” for the PGA TOUR’s rising superstar.
