Golf’s Biggest Tag Team Event Returns to the Big Easy
New Orleans, April 19, 2023 – The PGA TOUR’s annual team competition, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, is set to tee off once again this week. The event, which features an alternating-round format of Four-ball and Foursomes play, promises an exciting showcase of golf’s top duos.
The first and third rounds will see players competing in the Four-ball format, where each member of the two-man teams plays their own ball, with the best score recorded for the team. The second and final rounds will shift to the Foursomes format, where partners will rotate tee shots, taking turns playing each stroke until the ball is holed.
The starting field will consist of 80 teams, 160 players in total, with the top available players from the PGA TOUR Priority Rankings selecting their partners, who must also hold TOUR status unless granted a sponsor exemption.
“The winning team will receive a host of benefits, including a two-year winner’s exemption, eligibility for Invitational events, and both players’ inclusion in the PGA Championship’s Tournament Winners category.”
Following the second round, the field will be cut to the low 33 teams and ties. In the event of a tie at the conclusion of regulation play, a sudden-death playoff will commence, alternating between Foursomes and Four-ball formats on a preset rotation of holes.
The winning team will receive a host of benefits, including a two-year winner’s exemption, eligibility for Invitational events, and both players’ inclusion in the PGA Championship’s Tournament Winners category. FedExCup points and official prize money will be evenly split between the team members.
With the unique team format, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans promises an engaging and strategic spectacle for golf fans. As the PGA TOUR’s premier team event, this year’s edition is sure to captivate audiences and crown a deserving champion in the heart of Louisiana.
