Xander Schauffele’s Father Rules Out LIV Golf Move After Major Triumph
In the aftermath of his breakthrough victory at the PGA Championship, Xander Schauffele’s father and swing coach, Stefan Schauffele, has firmly stated that his son will not be joining the LIV Golf series. Xander’s triumphant performance at Valhalla, where he edged out Bryson DeChambeau by a single stroke, has solidified his legacy in the sport.
The 30-year-old American secured his first major title with a final-round 65, finishing at a tournament-record 21-under par. This win grants Schauffele exemptions into golf’s most prestigious events, including the PGA Tour and the next five editions of the other three major championships.
“No chance,” Stefan Schauffele told GOLF.com. “Xander is not chasing the money. Xander is about legacy. And as my opinion — just as his father — there was never a chance.”
The elder Schauffele emphasized that their stance on LIV Golf remains unchanged, even in the face of lucrative offers.
“What we told LIV in Saudi Arabia, with Xander beside me, was that if there is no path back to the PGA Tour and if there is no chance at World Ranking points we do not have anything to talk about. Even if you throw hundreds of millions of dollars at him. That word still stands.”
Schauffele, an Olympic gold medalist, had finished in the top ten at majors 12 times before his breakthrough victory in Louisville. He acknowledged that the narrative surrounding his near misses had provided added motivation.
“All those close calls for me, that sort of feeling gets to you at some point,” he said. “It just makes this even sweeter. I know it’s a major, but just winning in general this is as sweet as it gets for me.”
