Veteran Wesley Bryan Shines at Corales Puntacana Championship

March 26, 2023 – In a captivating return to Sunday contention, PGA TOUR veteran and YouTube personality Wesley Bryan showcased his resilience at the Corales Puntacana Championship. Though he ultimately finished solo second to Billy Horschel’s commanding final-round 63, Bryan’s impressive performance left an indelible mark on the tournament.

Entering the week on low-level past champion status, Bryan seized the 54-hole lead with a stellar start, carding an opening 9-under 63 followed by solid rounds of 69-66. In the final round, the 34-year-old University of South Carolina alum remained unfazed, delivering a smooth 68 to finish at 21-under, two shots behind Horschel’s winning 23-under total.

“Obviously excited, it was an amazing week, but bummed,” Bryan said afterward. “Definitely encouraged how the golf game was, how it held up under the pressure of a weekend leading a golf tournament. Today just got beat, plain and simple.”

Bryan’s lone PGA TOUR title came at the 2017 RBC Heritage, shortly after his breakout season on the Korn Ferry Tour. While he struggled to replicate that success in the years that followed, this week’s strong showing has renewed his confidence, securing him a coveted start at the upcoming THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson.

“For the girls to be out here this week, I mean, I could have finished dead last, but for them to be able to see daddy hit a few golf shots and kind of soak in what the atmosphere was I feel like was pretty special,” Bryan said.

Alongside Bryan, fellow past champion Kevin Tway also earned a spot at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson with his solo third-place finish at 19-under. Non-member Peter Kuest, who Monday qualified for the Valero Texas Open and finished T10, continued his impressive run with a T9 result in Punta Cana, securing another start at the upcoming event.

As the PGA TOUR season marches on, the Corales Puntacana Championship proved to be a revelatory week for veteran golfers like Wesley Bryan, who showcased their resilience and determination in the pursuit of renewed success on the game’s highest stage.
