Valero Texas Open Preview: Rory McIlroy Leads Strong Field

The PGA Tour remains in Texas this week for the Valero Texas Open, the third-oldest tournament on the Tour’s calendar. The event will take place at the Greg Norman-designed Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, serving as the last warmup before the upcoming Masters Tournament.
Headlining the field is Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who is making his second appearance at the Valero Texas Open, having finished runner-up in 2013. Joining him are several past Masters champions, including Hideki Matsuyama, Jordan Spieth, and Adam Scott. Spieth and Scott have both won this event, with Spieth’s victory coming in 2021.
The defending champion, Corey Conners, will be in attendance, looking to defend his title. Conners is a two-time Valero Texas Open champion, having also won the tournament in 2019.
With the Masters just a week away, the players will be aiming to fine-tune their games ahead of golf’s first major championship of the year. The course is known for its Bermuda grass, deep bunkers, tree-lined fairways, and limestone walls, providing a challenging test for the participants.
“As bettors and DFS players approach this event, emphasis will be placed on statistics such as strokes gained on approach shots from over 200 yards, strokes gained on approach from inside 100 yards, one-putt percentage, and putting from 10 feet.”
Despite Conners’ success, the importance of putting will not be overlooked as players seek to gain an edge on the field.
