Golf enthusiasts are abuzz with the news that Tiger Woods’ 15-year-old son, Charlie, will attempt to qualify for next week’s prestigious Cognizant Classic on the PGA Tour.
The young Woods prodigy is set to compete in Thursday’s pre-qualifier at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, one of four pre-qualifying sites for the event.
According to PGA Tour officials, approximately 25 players and ties will advance from the pre-qualifier to the full qualifier on Monday, February 26. From this second stage, four players will ultimately earn their spots in the Cognizant Classic, set to take place from February 29 to March 3 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.
The Cognizant Classic boasts a lucrative $7.1 million prize fund and an impressive field, featuring the likes of golfing superstars Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, and Matt Fitzpatrick – all members of the recent Ryder Cup team.
“This will not be Charlie Woods’ first foray into high-level competition. The talented teenager has competed in the last four editions of the PNC Championship alongside his father, Tiger,”
who was forced to withdraw from last week’s Genesis Invitational due to illness. Charlie also held his own in last year’s Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship, where he finished tied for 17th in the boys 14-15 division with his father serving as his caddie.
The golf world will be closely watching to see if Charlie Woods can secure a spot in the prestigious Cognizant Classic, further showcasing the immense potential of the next generation of golfing talent.
