Sergio Garcia, the renowned Spanish golfer, is determined to force his way back into Europe’s plans for the 2025 Ryder Cup. The 44-year-old, who is the leading points scorer in Ryder Cup history, missed the 2023 edition in Rome after joining the LIV Golf circuit and relinquishing his DP World Tour membership.

Despite the setback, Garcia remains hopeful of making a sensational return to the biennial competition. He has announced that he will be a member of the DP World Tour again next year and will compete in a minimum of four events to keep his card. This move is a strategic one, as Garcia believes it will give him the best chance of being considered for the European team.

“I want to give myself the best possibility for [the Ryder Cup],” Garcia explained on The Rick Shiels Golf Show. “Only playing a handful of events, it’s not going to be easy to make it unless I do super, super well.”

The Spaniard acknowledges that his limited involvement on the DP World Tour may make it challenging to secure a spot on the team, but he is confident that his past performances and the value he can bring to the team will be taken into account.

Garcia’s outstanding Ryder Cup record, which includes being the leading points scorer in the event’s history, could work in his favor. However, he is not focused on captaincy at the moment, stating, “I feel like I can still bring a lot as a player, but yes, obviously it is a possibility, we will see what happens.”

The former Masters champion recently finished second at the opening event of the 2024 LIV season in Mayakoba, followed by a 29th-placed finish in Las Vegas. He will have another opportunity to showcase his skills at the upcoming LIV event in Jeddah, which is set to take place from March 3rd.

As Garcia continues his pursuit of a Ryder Cup comeback, golf enthusiasts will eagerly follow his journey, eager to see if the veteran can reclaim his place on the European team and add to his impressive Ryder Cup legacy.
