Scottie Scheffler Seizes Another Commanding Victory at the 50th Players Championship
The PGA Tour season, which many had deemed lacklustre in its opening weeks, received a jolt of energy last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando. That momentum carried over to Ponte Vedra Beach as the tour’s marquee event, the 50th Players Championship, unfolded in dramatic fashion.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler emerged victorious, carding a final-round 64 to tie the lowest closing score by a champion in tournament history. The reigning U.S. Open, Open Championship, and Olympic gold medalist all had birdie opportunities on the 18th hole to force a playoff, but ultimately came up short, falling by a single stroke to the golfing juggernaut that is Scheffler.

His ball-striking was exceptional, leading the field in strokes gained tee-to-green for the second consecutive year at TPC Sawgrass. Since 2003, when strokes gained data was first tracked, Scheffler now owns the best (2023) and third-best (2022) tee-to-green performances by a Players champion.
The victory also made Scheffler the first back-to-back winner of the prestigious tournament, breaking a long-standing drought. Additionally, his putting prowess has been on full display in recent weeks, with the 26-year-old gaining more than six-tenths of a stroke on the greens during the final round.
Runners-Up and Scoring Highlights
- Wyndham Clark and Xander Schauffele finished one shot behind Scheffler.
- Brian Harman rounded out the trio of runners-up.
- The tournament saw a remarkable display of scoring, with the field combining for 1,769 birdies and eagles – the second-most in tournament history.
