Scotland’s Robert Macintyre Surges Ahead at RBC Canadian Open
On the penultimate day of the RBC Canadian Open, Scotland’s Robert Macintyre put on an impressive performance, taking a commanding four-shot lead heading into the final round. The 27-year-old golfer overcame an early stumble, opening with a bogey and turning at one over par, to mount an incredible comeback on the back nine.
Macintyre’s round took a positive turn with a birdie on the 10th hole, returning him to even par. However, a dropped shot on the 13th threatened to derail his pursuit of his first PGA Tour title. The Scot responded masterfully, carding three consecutive birdies before sinking a remarkable 30-foot putt for an eagle on the par-five 17th hole, putting him at 14 under par for the tournament.
Chasing Pack in Hot Pursuit
Macintyre now holds a four-stroke advantage over a trio of players, including Canada’s Mackenzie Hughes, New Zealand’s Ryan Fox, and American Ben Griffin. Notably, England’s Tommy Fleetwood surged up the leaderboard with a bogey-free round of 64 on Saturday, leaving him one shot behind the leading group at nine under par.
Rory McIlroy Moves into Top 10
In a separate development, Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy fired himself back into contention with a five-under round of 65, moving him into the top 10 at seven under par. Reflecting on his performance, McIlroy acknowledged the potential for low scores on the course, stating:
