Monahan emphasized a “shared vision” with Al-Rumayyan on ending the division within the sport and growing golf. However, he cautioned that the process will take time, reiterating the ongoing nature of the discussions that have been ongoing for the past nine months.

PGA Tour Partnerships

The PGA Tour also recently partnered with a consortium of billionaire investors, Strategic Sports Group (SSG), who invested $3 billion to help form the new PGA Tour Enterprises in February. Monahan revealed that the SSG investors accompanied him to meet with PIF in January before finalizing their own deal, and he does not believe the SSG partnership has complicated the negotiations with PIF.

Addressing PGA Tour Members’ Frustrations

When asked about frustration from PGA Tour members and the potential return of LIV golfers, Monahan acknowledged the lively debate but stated that the tour’s board supports his leadership in navigating this challenging situation. He emphasized a unified front and his determination to lead the PGA Tour forward.

Enhancing the Fan Experience

Monahan also spoke about the PGA Tour’s focus on enhancing the fan experience, capitalizing on the sport’s recent popularity surge during the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that feedback from fans has included a desire for more golf coverage, enhanced data and analytics, and innovative features like mid-round player interviews.
