World number one Nelly Korda is determined to maintain her remarkable form as she bids for a fifth consecutive victory and her second major title at the upcoming Chevron Championship.
Korda, who won her first event of the year at the LPGA Drive On Championship in January, has since gone on a remarkable tear, winning three events in the span of just three weeks. This includes a triumph over Ireland’s Leona Maguire in the final of the T-Mobile Match Play.
“In 2021 I went on a run, and then in 2022 and 2023 golf really humbled me,” she admitted. “There are ups and downs.”
The 25-year-old is the first woman to win four straight events since Lorena Ochoa in 2008, and the first to enter a major on such a hot streak since the legendary Annika Sorenstam.
Despite her recent dominance, Korda remains grounded and humble, acknowledging the ups and downs that come with the sport.
Korda took a well-deserved break after her last victory, but is now feeling refreshed and ready to take on the challenges of the Chevron Championship, the first women’s major of the season.
“I always want to practice more, do more to be better. So made sure to prioritize my rest and making sure to go to sleep early and sleeping a lot, too.”
The world number one will face stiff competition from the likes of Lilia Vu, the defending champion, as well as Australian star Minjee Lee. Korda has been paired with Vu and Lee for the opening rounds, adding to the intrigue of the tournament.
As Korda aims to continue her unprecedented run of form, she remains mindful of the need to balance her competitive drive with proper rest and recovery.
With her sights set on a fifth straight victory and a second major title, Nelly Korda is poised to make further golfing history at the Chevron Championship.
