Justin Thomas Masters Equipment Changes: Fine-Tuning for Success

As Justin Thomas gears up for his ninth appearance at the Masters, the former PGA Champion has been diligently fine-tuning his equipment setup in search of his elusive first green jacket.

The golfer has historically relied on a set of custom Titleist 621.JT blade irons but decided to make a tweak before the U.S. Open last year, swapping out his 4-iron for a more forgiving Titleist T100 model. This change proved beneficial, and the T100 4-iron has remained in his bag ever since.

Building on that success, Thomas has now added a Titleist T100 5-iron to his setup, drawn to the club’s added forgiveness and higher launch. However, this introduced a distance gap issue between the 5-iron and 4-iron. To remedy this, Thomas has opted for a Titleist T200 4-iron, which provides even more forgiveness and an elevated launch.

The changes to Thomas’ iron setup have been made with a specific goal in mind – to improve his performance on long approach shots. Currently ranked 134th on the PGA TOUR in strokes gained on approaches over 200 yards, the Kentucky native is hopeful that the added forgiveness and height from his new irons will pay dividends at Augusta National.

He has also switched to a new Titleist Phantom X model putter after extensive testing to find the perfect sound and feel off the face. Additionally, the 29-year-old has been experimenting with a prototype Titleist TSR 2-wood, which he may consider putting into play during the Masters.

As the first major of the year approaches, Justin Thomas has left no stone unturned in his pursuit of that elusive green jacket. With a revamped equipment setup, the former world No. 1 will look to harness newfound performance gains and make a strong run at the 2023 Masters. GolfWRX
