Jon Rahm, one of the world’s elite golfers, is gearing up to defend his Masters title next month, despite the significant changes in his professional landscape. Rahm, who joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league in December, has had to adjust to missing out on defending his titles at several PGA Tour events he deeply cherishes.

“I’m not going to lie,” Rahm said during a media conference on Tuesday. “For everybody who said this would be easy, some things have been, but not being able to defend some titles that mean a lot to me hasn’t.”

However, the opportunity to defend his Masters crown, which he won last year, remains the top priority for the passionate golf enthusiast.

Rahm’s victory at Augusta National in 2022 propelled him back to the world No. 1 ranking, a position he has held since May 2023. But in the months since, Scottie Scheffler has emerged as a dominant force, winning back-to-back events at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship.

Despite the shifting dynamics, Rahm remains focused on the task at hand. “I think that’s what’s making this Masters and many other majors going to be so much fun, not only for me and for players but for spectators, is for all of us to be able to play together again and showcase what we’re capable of,” he said.

Rahm, known for his deep passion for the sport, expressed his hope to tee it up at The Players Championship once more, lamenting his withdrawal from the event due to illness. He also advocated for a potential union between the LIV Golf league and the PGA Tour, echoing the sentiment of his Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy.

As the golfing world eagerly awaits the upcoming Masters, Rahm’s preparation and mindset will be slightly different from last year, as he plans to compete in the LIV event in Miami the week before the year’s first major. Nevertheless, the defending champion remains confident that his game is in a good place and that he is ready to defend his coveted title at Augusta National.
