Golf Superstar Rahm Unfazed by LIV Move as He Chases Masters Glory

April 5, 2023Spanish golf sensation Jon Rahm insists his competitive spirit remains undiminished despite his high-profile switch to the LIV Golf circuit. The two-time major champion is aiming to etch his name in the history books by becoming just the fourth player to win consecutive Masters titles.

Rahm’s shock defection to the Saudi-backed breakaway league had raised questions about his drive and motivation, given his previous criticism of LIV’s unorthodox format. However, the world No. 3 dismisses any notion that his switch has dulled his competitive edge.

“I’ve had a lot of fun playing in those [LIV] events,” Rahm affirmed. “The competition’s still there. Yeah, they’re smaller fields, but you still have to beat some of the best players in the world and play at the same level you have to on the PGA Tour to win.”

The Spaniard acknowledges the format differences, from the shotgun starts to the team element, but emphasizes that the “pressure’s there” and his desire to win remains as strong as ever. “Going down the stretch when you’re in contention is the exact same feelings. That really doesn’t change,” he stated.

Rahm arrives at Augusta on the back of a fourth-place finish in Miami and a team event victory at Doral, confident in his physical condition and readiness to tackle the year’s first major. The 28-year-old is unfazed by the prospect of addressing the “audience of all the living legends in this game” at the Champions Dinner, including fellow LIV converts.

With the ongoing debate surrounding the world ranking point dilemma facing LIV players, Rahm believes “there’s got to be a fair way for everybody to compete” and called for a structured evaluation system to determine LIV participants’ eligibility for major championships.

As Rahm prepares to write another chapter in his illustrious career, golf fans eagerly await his pursuit of history and the potential showdown between the sport’s elite, regardless of their tour affiliations.
