Veteran Golfer Furyk Excited for Scheffler’s Rise Ahead of Presidents Cup
As the United States gears up for the upcoming Presidents Cup, veteran Jim Furyk is keeping a close eye on the performance of emerging star Scottie Scheffler. Furyk, who will captain the U.S. team in the international competition this September, is thrilled to see Scheffler’s dominant early-season run, which has included victories at both the PLAYERS Championship and the Masters.
Scheffler’s impressive feats have catapulted him to the top of the U.S. team standings, and Furyk believes the young phenom will play a leading role for the Americans in Montreal.
“The two biggest events to date are THE PLAYERS and the Masters, and Scottie dominated both events and finished both events with a flurry,” Furyk noted. “He’s just on a roll right now.”
With the Presidents Cup just months away, Furyk is eager to build upon the lessons he learned as U.S. Ryder Cup captain in 2018. While the Americans have historically enjoyed success in the event, the veteran leader knows complacency cannot creep in.
“We like the roll we’re on and we want to keep that momentum rolling,” Furyk said, acknowledging the improved performances of the International team in recent editions.
Alongside Scheffler, Furyk is also keeping a close eye on other potential team members, including Max Homa, who turned in a strong showing at the Masters.
“From an aspect of everything involved – as far as being a good person, being a great teammate, being good in the team room and then also being very talented, I think he’s a great package,” Furyk said of Homa.
As the summer months approach, Furyk and his coaching staff will finalize the U.S. team roster, with the goal of continuing the country’s dominance in the Presidents Cup. With Scheffler leading the charge and a talented supporting cast, the Americans will be well-positioned to maintain their momentum on the international stage.
