Golf’s “Contract Killer” Brooks Koepka Primed for PGA Championship Defense
Golf enthusiasts eagerly await the upcoming PGA Championship, where reigning champion Brooks Koepka will look to defend his title. Two-time US Open winner Andy North believes Koepka, a “contract killer” on the major championship stage, will be the man to beat at Valhalla.
Koepka’s victory at Oak Hill last year made him the first LIV Golf player to win a major after joining the Saudi-backed breakaway circuit. Remarkably, the former world number one has won more majors (five) than regular PGA Tour events (four), with three US PGA Championship titles in the last six years and a runner-up finish in another.
“He shows up at a major championship, opens his locker and there’s like the ‘Mission Impossible’ thing. Here’s your assignment, go kill somebody this week. That’s how he approaches golf at major championships,” said ESPN analyst Andy North. “I don’t think he probably learned anything from the disappointment at Augusta (a tie for 45th in April’s Masters). I think he knows who he is. He knows what he can do at majors. I think he believes he can win every single major he tees it up in.”
Heading into the PGA Championship on the heels of his record fourth LIV victory in Singapore, Koepka appears poised to be a formidable force. “I sure as heck don’t want to bet against him,” North added. “It looks like he’s figured out something on the greens. He won a week ago. I think he’s going to be tough to beat this next week.“
North’s assessment of Koepka’s unparalleled ability to elevate his game at major championships is a testament to the player’s mental fortitude and determination. “He’s a completely different player four weeks a year than he is the other 48 weeks a year and I love that about him,” North said.
As golf enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the PGA Championship, all eyes will be on Brooks Koepka as he aims to defend his title and further cement his status as a dominant force in the game’s biggest events.
