Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, April 2024 – The Corales Puntacana Championship delivered a thrilling showcase of golfing talent this week, as four players earned their spots in the field through a Monday qualifier held at the Plantation Preserve Golf Course & Club in Plantation, Florida.
Thomas Longbella, a 26-year-old from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, emerged as the medalist, posting a bogey-free round of 9-under 62 to claim the top spot. The University of Minnesota alum, who made his PGA TOUR debut at last year’s Corales Puntacana Championship, will be looking to make the most of his second TOUR start.
Finishing closely behind Longbella was Ryan Celano, a 29-year-old from Naples, Florida, who carded a 7-under 64 to secure his first-ever PGA TOUR appearance. Celano, a University of Florida graduate, has previously competed on the Minor League Golf Tour and West Florida Golf Tour.
The final two spots in the Monday qualifier were clinched through a 3-for-2 playoff, with Chase Johnson of Barberton, Ohio, and Brandon Berry of McLean, Virginia, emerging victorious. Johnson, a 28-year-old Kent State alum, has made six previous PGA TOUR starts, including a 51st-place finish at the 2024 The Genesis Invitational. Berry, a 25-year-old Loyola University Maryland graduate, will be making his TOUR-sanctioned debut this week.
The Corales Puntacana Championship, held at the picturesque Corales Golf Course in the Dominican Republic, promises to deliver an exciting weekend of golf as these four Monday qualifiers join the rest of the field in pursuit of the title.
