Justin Thomas Revival at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Justin Thomas, the two-time major champion, is battling back from a tough season, showcasing renewed confidence at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Learn about his strategies to revive his game and the inspiring lessons fueling his comeback.
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Justin Thomas, the two-time major champion, is on the path to regaining his form as he competes in the loaded field at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The 30-year-old star has been working tirelessly to get back to the level of play that earned him a Ryder Cup spot, which had become controversial due to his recent struggles.
After a challenging 2022 season, where Thomas dropped to 71st in the FedEx Cup standings and missed the playoffs, he’s determined to make a comeback. He’s been analyzing his swing videos, making adjustments under the guidance of his father and swing coach, Mike Thomas.
On Friday at Pebble Beach, Thomas showcased his renewed confidence, firing a 5-under-par 67 to put himself in fifth place. He chipped in on the first hole, birdied the par-5 second, and spun a tee shot back on the seventh for a 3-foot birdie. Despite missing several putts that could have placed him even higher, Thomas is pleased with his progress.
“I’m very close,” Thomas said. “I think, at this point, it’s just starting to win tournaments again. I feel like I’m very, very close to doing that and starting to do it, you know, often again.”
The journey back for Thomas has been a learning experience. He recognized that his desire to constantly tinker and improve his game can sometimes be a double-edged sword, both helping and hindering his performance. This self-awareness has led him to find a better balance, working with his coach but also taking ownership of certain aspects of his game.
As Thomas looks to regain his form, he’s drawing inspiration from a story he often shares about his rookie year on the PGA Tour. A conversation with Hudson Swafford reminded him that earning a Tour card is just the beginning, and he needs to keep working hard to maintain and improve his status.
This hard-earned lesson has resonated with Thomas, and he’s determined to prove himself once again. With promising signs in his recent performances, the golf world is eagerly awaiting his return to the top of the sport.
