The DP World Tour’s Prestigious Team Cup Set to Return in Abu Dhabi
The DP World Tour’s prestigious Team Cup competition is set to return in Abu Dhabi next January, with golf superstars Justin Rose and Francesco Molinari named as the respective captains for Great Britain and Ireland, and Continental Europe.
Rose, a former world No. 1 and Ryder Cup veteran, will be leading the GB and Ireland team for the first time, while Molinari, his Ryder Cup teammate, captained the Continental Europe squad to victory in the inaugural edition two years ago.
“It was a really special week in 2023 and was great to see players from so many different countries across the Continent working towards one single goal,” said Molinari.
Rose echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging the “so much exciting talent from Great Britain and Ireland on the DP World Tour right now” and his eagerness to mold them into a winning team, despite the formidable challenge presented by Molinari’s side.
Team Composition and Format
Each team will feature 10 DP World Tour members, with the leading four available Continental European and GB and Ireland players determined by the final 2024 Race to Dubai rankings. The remaining five players on each team will be selected by the captains in consultation with Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, who will also oversee the proceedings in the United Arab Emirates.
The format will mirror the previous edition, with one session of fourballs on Friday, two sessions of foursomes on Saturday, and a concluding singles session on Sunday, as the two sides battle for continental supremacy.
The Team Cup competition is set to take place at the National Course of the Abu Dhabi Golf Resort from January 10-12, 2024, in a thrilling three-day match play contest.
