On a surprising Thursday afternoon at the Scottish Open, Rory McIlroy and the European Ryder Cup team expressed their shock over the recent announcement of Keegan Bradley as the United States captain for the upcoming Ryder Cup matches.
McIlroy, who carded a first-round 5-under 65 at the Renaissance Club, revealed that European captain Luke Donald had informed the team of the unexpected news during a dinner on Sunday night. “Disbelief,” McIlroy said, describing the reaction of the European players. Donald had told them that the American captain at Bethpage would not be the widely expected Tiger Woods, but rather the 38-year-old Bradley, who hasn’t featured on a Ryder Cup team in a decade.
