Golf Prodigy Charlie Woods Qualifies for Prestigious U.S. Junior Amateur Championship

Golf enthusiasts were abuzz with excitement as Charlie Woods, the son of legendary 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, qualified for the prestigious U.S. Junior Amateur championship on Wednesday. The young golfer posted a remarkable 1-under 71 at the qualifying event held at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida, securing one of the four spots in the prestigious tournament.

Charlie, who played the back nine first, started his round with a bogey and a double bogey but quickly recovered, recording three birdies in four holes from the 13th to the 16th holes. He ended the front nine at even-par 36 and further solidified his performance on the back nine, carding two birdies and just one bogey for a 35, finishing the day at 1-under-par.

Observing the moment with immense pride, Tiger Woods was present at the qualifying event, according to a USGA official. This achievement comes on the heels of Charlie’s impressive performance last fall, where he became a high school state golf champion in Florida.

The young Woods has been a fixture at the parent/child PNC Championship event, competing alongside his father for the past four years. Their best finish was in 2021, where they finished second to John Daly and his son, John Daly II.

By qualifying for the U.S. Junior Amateur, Charlie is following in the footsteps of his father, who is a three-time champion of the event, winning it in 1991, 1992, and 1993 at the age of 15, which is Charlie’s current age. Other notable past champions of the U.S. Junior Amateur include three-time major champion Jordan Spieth and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

The U.S. Junior Amateur will take place at the prestigious Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, from July 22 to 27. Charlie’s presence in the field is sure to attract significant national attention, as the young prodigy continues to make his mark on the golf world.
