The 32-year-old golfer from Ontario navigated a steady final round of 67 (4-under) to outlast a late charge from PGA Tour veteran Ben Kohles, who narrowly missed out on his first career title.
Pendrith’s winning moment came on the 547-yard 18th hole, where he calmly two-putted for birdie, while Kohles’ hopes were dashed by a costly bogey after chunking a chip shot from inside 20 yards. The victory marks Pendrith’s first-ever PGA Tour triumph, a milestone he has been pursuing for over a decade.
“It’s crazy,” an elated Pendrith said after securing the win. “Ben played great today, he birdied 16 and 17. I didn’t hit my best iron shots down the stretch, but a good two-putt on the last. I feel for Ben, making bogey. He played so well today. But I’m super thrilled. It’s amazing — I’m shaking.”
Pendrith’s consistent rounds of 64-67-63-67 in Texas not only lock up his PGA Tour status through 2026 but also guarantee him starts in the 2024 signature events, including next week’s Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.
The 2024 season has been a rollercoaster for Pendrith, who has been battling through a persistent shoulder injury. Diagnosed with calcific tendinitis, the Canadian has undergone various non-surgical procedures to address the issue, but the pain has continued to linger, affecting his club head speed. Pendrith, who turned professional in 2014 after a successful collegiate career at Kent State University, has been steadily climbing the ranks, earning his PGA Tour card through the Korn Ferry Tour in 2020.
