Paris Hosts Women’s Olympic Golf Tournament as Korda Looks to Defend Gold
Following an exhilarating men’s competition that saw world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler claim gold for Team USA, the spotlight now shifts to the women’s event at Le Golf National in Paris. The 72-hole stroke play tournament, featuring 60 competitors from 33 countries, marks the women’s return to the Olympic stage after a thrilling debut in the 2016 and 2020 Games.
Defending Champion Korda Leads American Charge
Defending champion Nelly Korda, the world’s top-ranked player, will lead the American contingent as she seeks to retain her Olympic title. Korda, a 14-time LPGA winner, hopes to regain her early-season form that saw her win five consecutive events, including the Chevron Championship. However, the 26-year-old has faced some recent struggles, missing the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open and KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
Joining Korda on the U.S. team are fellow Americans Lilia Vu and Rose Zhang. Vu, the world No. 2, is making a comeback after a back injury sidelined her for much of the LPGA season, while the 21-year-old Zhang, a Stanford product, is quickly establishing herself as a rising star on tour.
Competitive Field Promises Thrilling Action
The field includes 12 of the top 15 players in the Rolex Women’s Golf Rankings, ensuring a highly competitive event. France’s Celine Boutier and Perrine Delacour will look to capitalize on home support, while Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul, Sweden’s Linn Grant, and Canada’s Brooke Henderson are also expected to contend for medals.
