Gusty Conditions at Augusta as Scheffler, DeChambeau, and Homa Tie for Lead at 2023 WGC Dell Match Play

Augusta, Georgia, April 7th, 2023 – The second round of the 2023 WGC Dell Match Play at Augusta National Golf Club was a true test of skill, with strong winds and gusty conditions challenging the field. As the weekend approaches, a trio of golfers find themselves tied for the lead at 6-under-par – Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, and Max Homa.

DeChambeau, the overnight leader, shot a 73 in the second round but remains firmly in contention for his second major championship victory. Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion, carded an even-par 72, showcasing his impressive short game to stay in the hunt for his second major title. Homa, meanwhile, continued his brilliant play, shooting a 71 after completing 23 holes on Friday, positioning himself to potentially claim his first major championship.

“The story of the tournament has undoubtedly been DeChambeau’s switch to a new set of custom-made, 3D-printed irons that were only approved by the USGA earlier this week. These unique clubs, developed by a company called Avoda, have a distinct face curvature that DeChambeau believes helps his mishits go straighter.”

Homa, the world’s 11th-ranked golfer, has never been in serious contention at a major championship before, but that narrative could change this weekend. The 33-year-old has displayed discipline and resilience in the challenging conditions, making him one of the players to watch as the tournament enters its final two rounds.

The LIV Golf contingent has also made its presence felt, with 8 of the 13 LIV golfers in the field making the cut, led by DeChambeau’s co-leadership. Other notable LIV players to survive the cut include Cam Smith, Patrick Reed, Brooks Koepka, and Jon Rahm, the defending Masters champion.

As the 2023 WGC Dell Match Play enters the weekend, golf fans can expect an exciting battle for the coveted green jacket, with the world’s best golfers vying for the title.
