Tyrrell Hatton Surges to the Top at the Betfred British Masters
Golfing enthusiasts were treated to a scintillating performance from Tyrrell Hatton, the pre-tournament favorite, as he navigated the Belfry course with precision during the second round of the Betfred British Masters.
Hatton, the Ryder Cup star, capitalized on the ideal early-morning conditions, carding an impressive round of 65, including eight birdies and just a single bogey. This stellar performance, combined with his opening round of 69, propelled the Englishman to a halfway total of 10-under-par, securing a one-shot lead over Spain’s Jorge Campillo, who returned a solid 67.
“We always say that we’ve left something out there, it’s never perfect is it? But I’m more than happy with seven under today,” Hatton said, reflecting on his impressive round.
The 31-year-old was particularly pleased with his putting, holing several crucial par putts, including a long one on the 11th hole, his second of the day, to get his round off to a strong start.
Despite missing a few short putts, Hatton remains confident in his ability to maintain his form over the weekend. “I just need to keep giving myself opportunities,” he said, highlighting the importance of driving the ball well on a course where a wedge approach can often set up a birdie chance.
Chasing the Lead
- France’s Tom Vaillant sits two shots off the lead after a 67.
- South African Thriston Lawrence is a further stroke back.
All eyes will be on Hatton as he looks to capitalize on his strong position and secure the Betfred British Masters title.
