Golf Enthusiasts Eagerly Follow Tiger Woods’ Comeback Journey at the 2024 Masters
(BBC Golf, April 11, 2024) – In a highly anticipated return to the golf course, legendary player Tiger Woods teed off at the 2024 Masters Tournament at Augusta National on Thursday. Despite the challenging wind conditions, Woods played a solid opening round, sitting at 1-under-par (T17) through 13 holes before play was suspended due to darkness.
Woods, a 15-time major champion, opened his first round with a birdie on the 1st hole, the second time in his illustrious career that he’s started with a birdie on the opening hole at the Masters. After a bogey on the 4th hole, the golfing icon responded with a birdie on the par-5 8th to go back to 1-under-par.
“The wind was all over the place,” Woods said after his round. “It was one of the most tricky days that I’ve ever been a part of. It was hard to get a beat not only on what direction it was going, but the intensity, and it kept switching all over the place.”
Throughout the round, Woods displayed impressive scrambling skills, particularly on the treacherous Amen Corner, where he recorded up-and-down pars on the 11th and 12th holes. His two-putt par on the 13th hole before play was suspended kept him in red figures.
Woods’ first round will resume on Friday morning at 7:50 a.m. ET before he heads back out for his second round, as he aims to extend his remarkable streak of making the cut at the Masters to 24 consecutive appearances.
While the former world No. 1 has faced numerous physical challenges in recent years, his early performance at the 2024 Masters has golf enthusiasts eagerly following his comeback journey, as he seeks to add to his legacy at one of the sport’s most prestigious events.
