Scottie Scheffler Shakes Off Early Struggles, Fires 2-Under 69 in Round 1 of RBC Heritage

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (April 13, 2023) – Fresh off his Masters victory, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler overcame a shaky start to card a 2-under 69 in the opening round of the RBC Heritage.

Scheffler, who has won three of his last four tournaments, admitted to feeling drained early on, but he quickly regrouped to finish strong and extend his streak of consecutive rounds under par to 37.

“I got pretty frustrated towards the middle of the round,” Scheffler said after the round. “But I think that frustration helped me focus and use that energy in a positive way.”

After a double bogey on the par-4 third hole, Scheffler birdied the par-3 seventh to make the turn at even par. He then navigated a tricky situation on the 11th hole, where a ball marked with mud led to a difficult up-and-down that he salvaged with a 16-foot par putt.

Scheffler caught fire late, making birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to finish the day just six shots back of leader J.T. Poston’s 8-under 63.

“I feel like I had more energy now than I did at the beginning of the day,” Scheffler said. “It’s nice to be kind of back into tournament mode.”

Despite the early struggles, the world’s top-ranked player proved once again why he is one of the game’s premier talents, digging deep to post a solid opening round at the RBC Heritage.
