Xander Schauffele of the United States and Jon Rahm of Spain shared the top spot on the leaderboard at 14-under par after the penultimate round of the 2023 WGC-Dell Match Play event on Saturday. Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood, who held the overnight lead alongside Schauffele and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, remained in medal contention, sitting one shot behind the leaders in third place heading into the final round at Le Golf National near Paris.

“For this last month, to be playing as good as I have … and give myself an opportunity this week as well, is very, very gratifying,” the Spaniard [Rahm] told reporters after his round.

Rahm, the reigning Masters champion, who competes on the Saudi-backed LIV tour, climbed from his fourth-place position on Friday by firing a second consecutive 5-under par 66.

The field in the Olympic golf competition will be reduced by one on Sunday, as Britain’s Matt Fitzpatrick retired injured. The tee times for the final round on Sunday were also announced, with the marquee pairing of Rahm, Schauffele, and Fleetwood set to tee off at 11:39 BST.
