Nelly Korda Continues Dominant Start to 2024 LPGA Season

April 1, 2024 – It’s barely April, but Nelly Korda is already asserting her dominance on the LPGA Tour in 2024. The world No. 1 secured her third consecutive victory on Sunday, winning the inaugural Ford Championship in Gilbert, Arizona.

Korda’s come-from-behind triumph at Seville Golf and Country Club made her the first player to accomplish a three-peat since Ariya Jutanugarn in 2016. The 25-year-old American is also the first to achieve this feat since the legendary Nancy Lopez won five straight tournaments in 1978.

Playing in challenging rainy and chilly conditions, Korda shot a blemish-free 7-under 65 in the final round, the second-lowest score of the day. She finished the tournament at 20-under, two strokes ahead of Hira Naveed, with five players, including Lexi Thompson, tying for third at 17-under.

Korda’s recent run of dominance comes after a difficult couple of years, during which she battled injuries and ailments, including a blood clot in her arm. This season, the Olympic gold medalist has found her groove, expressing her love for the game and a renewed sense of enjoyment on the course.

“I’m just really enjoying myself out there,” Korda said. “I mean, I love golf. I’ve always loved golf. Sometimes it’s harder than other days, but this wasn’t one of those.”

Korda’s victory at the Ford Championship solidified her position atop the world rankings and further cemented her place in LPGA history. With the season just beginning, golf enthusiasts are eager to see what other milestones the young phenom can achieve in 2024.
