Justin Thomas Announces Caddie Change Ahead of Masters Tournament

Ahead of the upcoming Masters tournament, two-time major champion Justin Thomas has announced a change in his caddie partnership. On Wednesday, the 30-year-old golfer revealed that he will be parting ways with his longtime caddie, Jim “Bones” Mackay.
Thomas and Mackay have been working together since 2021, during which time they achieved significant success, including Thomas’ victory at the 2022 PGA Championship. The two also represented the United States in both the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup competitions.
In a statement shared on social media, Thomas expressed his gratitude for Mackay’s “wisdom on and off the course” during a challenging stretch in his career, adding that he believes “there are great things coming for both of us down the road.”
Mackay, who previously caddied for six-time major champion Phil Mickelson for 25 years, first joined Thomas’ team as a substitute during the 2018 Sony Open. He then became the golfer’s full-time caddie in September 2021.
The decision to part ways comes as Thomas looks to regain his form leading up to the Masters. After his 2022 PGA Championship victory, the American has struggled, failing to record a win in the current 2022-23 season and missing the FedEx Cup Playoffs for the first time in his career.
Thomas’ best finish at the Masters is a fourth-place result in 2020. As he prepares for the upcoming major tournament, the change in his caddie setup could potentially provide a fresh perspective and new dynamic to help the golfer find his way back to the winner’s circle.
