J.T. Poston Takes Lead at RBC Heritage with Newborn Daughter by His Side
J.T. Poston seizes a two-shot lead at the RBC Heritage after a stunning 8-under 63 round, fueled by his newborn daughter, Scottie’s presence. Learn how Poston navigates parenthood and golf with family backing.
J.T. Poston‘s family has joined him on the road this week for the RBC Heritage, and their newest addition – his newborn baby girl, Scottie – is already proving to be a good luck charm. Poston fired an impressive 8-under 63 in the opening round, taking a two-shot lead at Harbour Town Golf Links.
The Postons welcomed their little one just three days after the final round of THE PLAYERS Championship, with Scottie being a family name on both sides. This week’s tournament, located roughly two hours from the Postons’ home in St. Simons, provided the perfect opportunity for a family affair.
“It’s been great. It’s definitely an adjustment,” Poston said. “I think my wife and I were figuring it out. My mom is here. She’s helping us out, too. So we’ve got plenty of help. We’re just kind of figuring it out.”
Poston made nine birdies on the day, including six on the front nine, which he played in 30 strokes. He added three more birdies on the back nine, offsetting his lone bogey at the 12th hole. Poston’s stellar performance was highlighted by his strong play around the greens and on the putting surfaces, where he finished second in Putting.
“I felt like it was one of those days where if I could give myself a look, and I felt pretty confident in being able to make those putts, whether it was a close one or a 20-, 25-footer,” Poston said. “It sort of freed up the tee to green a little bit I guess you could say.”
After a solid start to the season with three top 10s and two other top 20 finishes in his first six events, Poston has struggled to maintain that form in recent weeks. However, he believes the ebbs and flows of a season are natural, and he’s hopeful that Scottie‘s presence might be the key to turning things around.
“Maybe that has something to do with it,” Poston said. “It’s good to have them here and sort of takes away the pressure of – I’m not worrying about golf when I’m at home. I’m trying to change diapers and take care of her.”
