June 25, 2024 – The United States has officially named its women’s golf team for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. World No. 1 Nelly Korda, No. 2 Lilia Vu, and No. 9 Rose Zhang will don the red, white, and blue as they head to Le Golf National in August to compete in the Olympic golf competition.
According to the qualification system, a maximum of four golfers from a single country can earn a spot in the Paris Games, provided they are ranked within the top 15 in the Rolex Women’s Golf Rankings. Korda, Vu, and Zhang made the cut, while Ally Ewing (No. 16) narrowly missed out, finishing two strokes shy of a solo second-place result at last week’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
Korda, the defending Olympic gold medalist from the 2020 Tokyo Games, leads the American trio. The 25-year-old Floridian has been in dominant form, recording six LPGA tour wins this season, including an impressive run of five consecutive victories. This feat has only been achieved by golfing legends Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam. Korda’s impressive resume includes 14 career LPGA titles and one major championship.
Joining Korda are Vu and Zhang, both making their Olympic debuts. Vu, a five-time LPGA champion, overcame a back injury that sidelined her for the first half of the 2024 campaign. The 26-year-old UCLA alum has bounced back strongly, winning the Meijer LPGA Classic in her first tournament appearance since March. Vu also won two major championships in 2023, including the Chevron Championship and the AIG Women’s Open, before Korda reclaimed the world No. 1 ranking.
At 21 years old, Zhang is widely considered one of the game’s most promising young stars. The Stanford University product was the world’s top-ranked amateur for an unprecedented 141 weeks, and she has already won twice on the LPGA Tour, including a victory at the Cognizant Founders Cup.
All three golfers represented the United States at the 2023 Solheim Cup in Spain, and they will now look to bring home Olympic glory for their country in Paris.
