Nelly Korda Edges Out Hannah Green in Thrilling Mizuho Americas Open Victory

Nelly Korda secured her sixth LPGA Tour win in just seven starts this season, narrowly edging out Australia’s Hannah Green in a back-nine showdown at the Mizuho Americas Open in New Jersey. The 25-year-old American carded a final-round 71 to finish at 14-under-par 274, one shot clear of her close rival.

“I can’t even really gather myself right now with that, the head-to-head that Hannah and I had pretty much all day,” Korda said. “Wasn’t my best stuff out there today, but fought really hard on the back nine. It was just amazing to share the stage with Hannah.”

The victory made Korda the first player since Inbee Park in 2013 to record six wins in a single LPGA season. Korda’s impressive run was briefly interrupted last week when she saw her record-tying five-tournament winning streak snapped by Rose Zhang at the Cognizant Founders Cup. However, the world No. 2 quickly bounced back, matching birdies with Green on the 10th, 13th, and 15th holes to stay tied at the top.

On the final hole, Korda’s approach shot left her with a 15-foot putt for par, which she sank to secure the victory. Green, who was seeking her third win of the season, was unable to force a playoff, with her final putt failing to find the cup.

Leaderboard Highlights

Jennifer Kupcho, Gabriela Ruffels, Ariya Jutanugarn, and Chanettee Wannasaen finished in a tie for third, four shots behind the champion.
Wannasaen recorded the lowest round of the day, a 7-under 65, to climb up the leaderboard.

The win was Korda’s 14th on the LPGA Tour, and it earned her a $450,000 (£354,000) payday, bringing her career earnings to $11,880,981 (£9.3m) and her season earnings to $2,943,708 (£2.3m).
