Nelly Korda Extends Dominant Run with Mizuho Americas Open Victory

Nelly Korda further cemented her status as the premier force in women’s golf, capturing her sixth title in the last seven LPGA events by winning the Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National on Sunday. The 25-year-old Florida native’s latest triumph makes her the first player to win six or more tournaments in a single season since South Korea’s Inbee Park accomplished the feat in 2013.

Korda, the world’s top-ranked female golfer, entered the final round with a two-shot lead over Australia’s Hannah Green. Despite a shaky front nine that saw her card three bogeys, the American star rallied with birdies on holes 10, 13, and 15 to pull even with Green heading to the 18th. While Green faltered with a late bogey, Korda held steady to finish the tournament at 14-under par and secure her 14th career LPGA victory.

“This win is a testament to the hard work and dedication I’ve put in over the past year,” said Korda. “I’m thrilled to continue my strong play and contribute to the growth of women’s golf.”

The win capped off an exceptional 2024 campaign for Korda, who is now the first American woman to win six or more times in a season since Beth Daniel’s seven-title haul in 1990. Korda’s triumph at the Mizuho Americas Open also made her just the eighth player since 1980 to achieve the six-win milestone, joining an elite group that includes legends like Annika Sorenstam and Lorena Ochoa.

Korda’s dominant stretch was temporarily halted last week when the promising 20-year-old Rose Zhang ended her five-tournament winning streak at the Cognizant Founders Cup. However, the world No. 1 quickly regained her form, posting rounds of 70-68-65 to outpace the field and reclaim her position atop the women’s golf landscape.
